Tellon Capital has appointed Brasier Freeth and GCW to act as leasing agents for a new 70,000 sq. ft. retail and leisure scheme in the heart of Southampton’s City Centre.
Planning consent for the development was granted in January 2017 to transform the former shopping centre into a vibrant quarter, offering new boutique shopping, cafes, restaurants and modern living.
The £130m mixed use development will regenerate the area to include an avenue surrounded by substantial parks, the design will see the previously hidden historic walls uncovered for the first time in thirty years.
The new development, which features 22 retail and catering units together with a further 5 pavilion units, focused on an aspirational tenant line up. A vibrant new public realm will be at the heart of Bargate Quarter, making up almost one third of the scheme.
Damian Sumner, Partner at Brasier Freeth comments: “We are extremely excited to be involved in what will be a new chapter for the Bargate and the restored city walls set to become part of an exclusive retail and residential development. Bargate Quarter will breathe new life into the city, it will be a special place to relax, explore and shop”.
Chris Hovington of GCW, comments: “The scheme presents a unique opportunity for retailers and restauranteurs, redefining and reconnecting the retail circuit. The new boulevard will link the existing Debenhams store to the Bargate Monument and onwards providing a direct east west link to the new Watermark development, West Quay and Above Bar”.
James Burchell of Tellon comments: “We are delighted to work with such a wealth of retail agency experience to find the right tenant mix for the new Bargate Quarter, we have been overwhelmed by the level of interest we have received in the scheme and look forward to creating a new vibrant environment within the city centre”.
