The Church Commissioners has sold the Exeter Gateway site to Sainsbury’s.
Exeter Gateway forms part of the new commercial area to be developed to the east of Exeter, adjoining Exeter Airport, where work on a new residential village, Cranbrook, is currently underway. The area will be primarily accessed by a new road from the A30, forming a by-pass to the village of Clyst Honiton and constructed over land provided by the Church Commissioners and Devon County Council.
Sainsbury’s has detailed planning permission for a new 500,000 sq ft distribution centre to serve the south west, and was attracted to Exeter Gateway due to its excellent road connectivity and access to its store network. Cushman & Wakefield acted for Sainsbury’s.
Simon Lloyd, DTZ’s Head of Industrial and Logistics commented: “The Church Commissioners has owned the land for many years and have been fully involved in driving forward the comprehensive development proposals with East Devon District Council.”
