Leading UK carpet manufacturer, Brintons Carpets Ltd has appointed real estate adviser, DTZ, part of UGL Services, a division of UGL Limited (ASX: UGL), to sell its former headquarters premises in Kidderminster, Worcestershire.
The property, which is centrally located on Exchange Street next to the newly developed Weaver’s Wharf retail park in Kidderminster, is being marketed as a potential part new build and part conversion of the listed building into residential or mixed commercial uses.
The building became vacant at the end of 2011 after Brintons consolidated its operations to its two other sites in Kidderminster.
DTZ’s Residential team in Birmingham will be leading the search for a purchaser for the 31,275 sq ft property, located within a 0.6 acre site. The three storey Grade II listed building was built in 1876 and extended in 1926 and was formally used as office space.
The property has full planning permission for a 60 unit extra care residential facility with four retail units at ground floor level.
Kidderminster grew from a small market town to the home of the modern carpet industry during the 18th century. Brintons, which was founded 1783, is now the world’s largest manufacturer of high-quality woven Axminster carpets, supplying high profile hotels, airports, restaurants, offices, exhibition centres, casinos and cruise ships across the world.
Iain McArthur, Associate Director at DTZ in Birmingham commented: “This is a historically important building for Kidderminster and we believe potential purchasers may wish to seek an alternative use for the property, including hotel, retail and other commercial uses and, as a result, we will be marketing the site unconditionally and conditionally, subject to the purchaser obtaining alternative planning permission.”
