GMI Construction Group has completed the steel framework for a major new 92,000 sq ft distribution hub under construction at Burnley Bridge Business Park in East Lancashire.
Standing 19 metres high the building is the second largest on the regionally significant 70-acre site which is being developed by Eshton Group. It is to be occupied by local road haulage company Fagan & Whalley as a third UK depot and has capacity for 80 trailers with 10 loading bays and 25,000 pallet locations.
Andy Bruce, Managing Director at GMI Construction Group said, “We are delighted to be working on this project with Eshton and Fagan & Whalley to deliver new, purpose designed distribution facilities that are in high demand in the area. GMI specialises in delivering robust, future proof and energy efficient buildings for industrial uses and we are working closely with Fagan & Whalley to deliver a specification that will support a more efficient UK service. This milestone brings us ahead of schedule with completion due in May.”
Stephen Fagan, Commercial Director at Fagan & Whalley, commented: “Having the steel framework in place brings us a step closer to completing the project which will play a vital role in our growth plans. Both Eshton and GMI have proved to be outstanding partners for us during this project.
“The development work on site is now really gathering pace and we’re looking forward to having brand new, custom built and high quality premises that will add extra capacity and position us perfectly on the M65 corridor.”
The building plot is the last in Phase One development at Burnley Bridge which is located at Junction 9 of the M65. To date Eshton has invested £50 million to deliver 650,000 sq ft industrial and warehousing accommodation creating 1,400 jobs at the site. Eshton has more recently announced plans to extend the scheme with a new ten-acre development, Titanium Park which will provide a further 110,000 sq ft.
James Chapman, Managing Director of Eshton, added: “It’s great to see the vision for the new Fagan & Whalley accommodation coming to life. We look forward to seeing the project progress and are positive that once finished, the distribution centre will provide the company with similar successes that we’ve seen from other occupiers at Burnley Bridge.”
GMI has delivered other projects for Eshton at Burnley Bridge including Magnesium Court which offers 29,000 sq ft of excellent warehouse and industrial space and the refurbishment of the larger 64,100 sq ft Cobalt Building.
