Radstock in Somerset has received a welcome retail boost following consent being given to a new 22,065 sq ft (2,025 sq m) development on the former Charltons Timber Yard on Frome Road.
The development proposals are being brought forward by developers, Box Property Group, on behalf of the landowner’s, Charlton’s Group, a long established local family business.
Before the development has even commenced, three of the five units are under offer –and another is close, with the final unit of 2,687 sq ft (250 sq m) now being reoffered to the market by way of a new lease.
In prospect for the town are a branded multiple gym, DIY store, vets and retail food outlet – adding significantly to the mix of outlets available to local shoppers. The new site also has 39 onsite parking spaces.
“Radstock is located midway between Bath and Shepton Mallet and that competition has meant that is has suffered somewhat in the past from a lack of variety in its retail offer,” says Stuart Williams, Director of Williams Gunter Hardwick, who have been appointed by Box Property Group to let the new units being built.
“Radstock town centre, combined with adjoining town of Midsomer Norton, serves a growing population of around 11,000, and the new development’s location is on a busy road, adjacent to the town centre and opposite a new housing development,” says Mr Williams.
“The development has let extremely quickly, demonstrating the appetite for a vibrant addition to the town’s facilities for local people.”
Subject to the negotiations concluding successfully, the Box Property Group are hoping to be onsite in late spring/ early summer with a handover to the new tenants to fit in time for Christmas.
