Companies must act quickly if they are to benefit from business rate refunds dating back to 2015 with an appeal deadline of March 31 fast approaching.
Peter Fullam national Rating director, from the Nottingham offices of JLL comments: “The deadline to challenge your current rating assessment is fast approaching and time is of the essence. Many companies have one eye on the changes that commence in April with the start of the new rating list, rather than considering what could be done now about their existing assessment.”
Appeals lodged against the current rating assessment may not only generate refunds but also have the potential to directly influence the rateable values and liability from 1st April 2017 onwards.
Fullam continues: “There is potentially great benefit by challenging current rating assessments and we urge ratepayers to act now before it is too late and the deadline to lodge appeals expires.
“At the very least by considering if an appeal is merited ratepayers can be reassured they are paying the correct levels of rates as they enter the new rating list following the revaluation”
The new rating list starts on April 1, 2017 and is the biggest shake-up in a generation to business rates in the UK.
