Gregory Property Group has submitted a planning application to develop an 11-acre brownfield site less than one mile from Junction 32 of the M62 motorway near Wakefield.
The local developer plans to deliver 150,000 sq ft of new industrial accommodation on the site to be known as ‘Park 32’.
The planning application proposes four new units ranging in sizes from 20,000 sq ft to 80,000 sq ft to suit a variety of occupiers such as trade counter, manufacturing and distribution. The development will be just opposite Pontefract Racecourse and adjacent to Park Side Retail Park which includes Wickes, Currys PC World, Halfords and McDonald’s. Travis Perkins already occupies a unit within the development.
Barry Gregory of Gregory Property Group said, “We are delighted to submit a proposal to the Planning Authority for this site which has remained undeveloped for many years despite being earmarked for industrial development. There is a lack of supply of new, purpose built industrial space within the M62 corridor and we anticipate high levels of interest from occupiers once planning approval has been received.
“The whole area is undergoing considerable improvements with Harworth Estates investing in the former Prince of Wales Colliery which is attracting interest from national house builders.”
The Leeds office of leading property consultancy GVA has been appointed to market the scheme.
Director Rob Oliver said: “Park 32 is an exciting scheme that will bring much needed industrial space to this part of the local market. It’s close proximity to the M62 and A1(M) means we are confident it will be well received and indeed we are in discussions with local occupiers already.
“We are able to offer units designed to suit individual occupier requirements on either a leasehold or freehold basis.”
The site is located just off Junction 32 of the M62, where popular attractions include Xscape and Junction 32 Outlet Shopping Village. The new Five Towns Park and Stadium for Castleford Tigers is also proposed for the area which is just 2 miles from Pontefract town centre delivering strong amenities.
Gregory Property Group expects to secure planning by early Summer and start on site in the Autumn.
