In the year that Women in Property celebrates its 25th Anniversary, the South Midlands branch is urging fellow professionals from the property and construction industries to get in touch.
The organisation was originally formed back in 1987 as a networking group for professional women, because, at that time, there were so few women working in this industry. While much has changed, the fact remains that women still represent only 15% of the property and construction industry workforce, so there is still a way to go.
The South Midlands branch has an enthusiastic and committed membership who value the benefits brought through varied professional and social events, the WiP mentoring programme and the guidance available, whatever stage they have reached in their career.
Wendy Hodrien, Chairperson of Women in Property South Midlands and Principal at EMW Law said: “I would urge any woman working in this or related sectors to give one of our events a try – we all still face a challenging business environment, so never has there been a more important time to get ahead of the game by meeting and mixing with others in the industry.”
“Although we are a relatively young satellite branch, we are very enthusiastic and have a great response to our events. These have included site visits, professional talks, social events and sports fixtures. We mainly host events in Northampton and Milton Keynes, or the surrounding area – bridging the geographical gap between the Midlands and the South East branches.
Women in Property would also like to announce that committee member Karen Wilkins, a building surveyor at Lambert Smith Hampton has just been promoted to Director. Karen has worked at Lambert Smith Hampton’s office since joining as a graduate surveyor in 1996 and is an avid yachts woman.
