Nottingham has scooped three international awards – for the way it actively attracts overseas investment and its methods for creating hundreds of new jobs in the city.
According to financial researchers from fDI Investments in its inaugural Strategy Awards 2016, Nottingham has excelled in the way it has worked on its strategy to increase Chinese and Indian investment.
Nottingham takes the award for its China strategy not only for the way it set up an office in Ningbo, but because of its strategically led visits to China. Nottingham also scooped an award for its India strategy for the way it has targeted foreign direct investment in Punjab, and for setting up an office in Chandigarh.
The city’s third award was for its recruitment support to local businesses via the Nottingham Jobs Hub.
Nottingham was one of many global players. Other cities which excelled for its China Strategy were Manchester, Chicago and Edinburgh.

Councillor Jon Collins, leader of Nottingham City Council, will be presented with the coveted awards confirming Nottingham is a top city at a prestigious ceremony at MIPIM, the world’s largest property showcase next March.
It’s good news for Nottingham which won top ten accolades in 2012, 2014 and 2016 – including top mid-sized city for human capital and lifestyle.
The FDI’s latest research, which is produced every two years, shows that in terms of attracting international investment, Nottingham is doing better than many European cities of the same size.
Coun Collins said: “The FDI awards are a coveted event and Nottingham is going along to the ceremony.
“Mayors, dignitaries and professionals from economic development organisations across Europe are present at the awards, so it is a fantastic springboard for boosting Nottingham’s profile and drawing attention to the great achievements of the city.
“It is brilliant that Nottingham is ranked highly as a city with huge potential for development and investment.
“The analysis underlines the city’s capability as a high achieving city to invest in. It also provides corporate decision-makers with an up-to-date image of the ever-changing global investment map.”
