One of Wales’s largest independent oil distribution companies has enjoyed a record breaking year with turnover soaring to £120 million.
Oil 4 Wales, which is run by father and daughter team Colin and Sally Owens, achieved its most successful year in 2016.
The business’s success was reflected in its growth figures which are up by 23 per cent from the previous year. This was despite challenging seasonal conditions, including the mildest winter and wettest summer, which could have significantly affected trading.
Overall, the company’s net worth has now jumped to £750,000 thanks to a successful year across its Cardiff, Carmarthen, Blaenau Ffestiniog, Powys, Felinfach, Brecon, and Milford Haven depots.
Owner Mr Owens praised the significant increase and welcomed the achievement ahead of the New Year.
He said: “Oil 4 Wales staff work extremely hard to ensure our customers never go without their oil, so these figures are a great reward for all their dedicated work.
“Our growth has been achieved despite having the mildest summer and the wettest winter for years, which massively impacts our industry.
“We still have a fragile balance sheet, but we are pleased with our progress. A key measurement for us is our customer numbers which have grown to 65,000.
“Over the next five years, we are aiming to continue achieving growth of 20 per cent to 30 per cent year on year whilst building up our reserves to ensure the company’s long-term future.
“Our focus remains on strengthening the brand and continuing to give a good deal to the communities of Wales. We are in it for the long-haul, Oil 4 Wales will never be for sale and it will continue to run for the benefit of my family, staff and the communities across Wales for years to come.”
Oil 4 Wales’s commitment to local communities is demonstrated through various sponsorships and charitable donations. It also recently supplied one of its loyal customer with a free top-of-the-range tank after 1,000 litres of fuel vanished from hers.
Anne Jenkins, of Gelligaer, was left shocked after a significant amount of fuel was allegedly taken from the tank, which had also suffered serious damage.
Thankfully Oil 4 Wales went “above and beyond” to support their customer. Mrs Jenkins said: “I can’t thank them enough, I really can’t speak highly enough of Colin Owens and Oil 4 Wales.
“They really went above and beyond for me. The whole team has been tremendous.”
Oil 4 Wales was set up in 2010 by Colin Owens with the aim of creating a truly independent oil brand that focused on providing a good deal to the communities of Wales.
It now supplies 65,000 customers in Wales with a range of fuel services to homes, businesses, commercial premises, agricultural and retail premises.
It was one of 18 Welsh companies included in the London Stock Exchange’s 1,000 Companies to Inspire Britain and is the only Welsh oil distributor to have its fuel accredited by the FPS (Federation of Petroleum Suppliers) giving customers’ peace of mind that what it is supplying is the best in the market, having been tested for its cleanliness.
