Leading Law Firm Geldards have played a key role in the acquisition of land by Aston Martin for the establishment of their new manufacturing facility in South Wales.
Described as one of the most important manufacturing deals in the UK in 2016, production of the luxury car makers new DBX SUV is expected to eventually lead to the creation of over 1000 jobs in the region and provide a critical boost to the wider Welsh automotive and manufacturing supply chains.
Rob James, Real Estate Partner at Geldards, led the team that advised on all aspects of the transaction including the acquisition of the site from the MoD, the sale of the site to Aston Martin and the supporting guarantee from Welsh Government.
Rob James commented, “It has been a privilege to act for the Welsh Government on this landmark project that will make a major contribution to the Welsh economy and the establishment of high quality manufacturing facility for the globally renowned car maker. This was both a critical and complex project involving collaboration between public and private sectors and demonstrated Geldards ability to manage sensitive and nationally important projects.”
Commenting elsewhere on the deal, First Minister of Wales Carwyn Jones stated: “We are delighted that Aston Martin has chosen to locate its new manufacturing facility here in Wales and that the land sale is now complete.
“It is a genuine example of a ‘one nation’ achievement, with both the UK and Welsh governments working together to attract this prestige manufacturer to Welsh shores.”
