Leeds-based Castlehouse Construction has completed and handed over a newly built multi million pound Lidl supermarket on Great Gutter Lane in the village of Willerby, Kingston upon Hull.
Lidl’s original food store on Great Gutter Lane West, the first to open in East Yorkshire in 1993, was demolished in November 2015 to build the modern, new 25,000 sq ft two storey replacement supermarket.
The larger store offers a more spacious and attractive shopping environment for customers, including state of the art customer facilities and new in-store bakery.
With a £3.3m investment, the fully integrated new supermarket boasts 98 short stay car parking spaces and will include a larger sales area and full height glazing.
Lidl is well established in the Willerby village community and also operates two further supermarkets in the region, including Cottingham Road and Hessle Road, which opened in 2005.
Castlehouse Construction has now delivered 13 supermarkets for the well known retailer, including 5 new builds, 3 refurbishments and 5 bakeries, as part of Lidl’s national expansion programme. The discount retailer’s growth plans support its strategy to compete with traditional UK supermarket brands and now boasts more than 700 stores around the UK.
Richard Lumley, Director of Castlehouse Construction, said; “The Willerby store continues our long-standing relationship with Lidl and is the thirteenth project we have undertaken for the leading retailer. The works progressed smoothly on-site and we are delighted to have handed over the new store to Lidl which will provide an enhanced shopping experience for the Willerby community.”
