A young East Midlands professional has won a national award for his achievements in the property industry after beating tough competition from all over the UK at the 2016 Matrics Young Surveyor of the Year Awards, held last Friday night (18 November) in London.
Carl Pearson, Associate at Fisher German LLP in Ashby-De-La-Zooch won the Rural category at the annual awards, which recognise and celebrate the most inspirational young surveying professionals aged 35 and under in the UK.
Since starting his employment with Fisher German, Carl quickly maximised the efficiency and profitability of his client’s UK-wide asset portfolios. He also developed an Associate Forum Group, bringing greater collaborative thinking and training that will help cross-sell work and identify new opportunities.
On nominating Carl, his line manager Matthew Trewartha, Associate Partner at Fisher German LLP said: Carl has developed himself to become an indispensable part of Fisher German, his clients and to the profession as a whole. His skills and knowledge base are second to none and he approaches everything with enthusiasm, willingness and with an open mind. If we can train more young people to be like Carl we will grow and improve the profession.”
The annual RICS Matrics Surveyor of the Year Awards launched three years ago and there are 11 award categories including: Asset & Facilities Management, Building Surveying, Commercial Agency, Public Sector/Academia, Project Management, Planning & Development, Residential, Rural and Valuation.
The overall prize of ‘UK Young Surveyor of the Year’ was awarded to Matthew Fedigan, Director at Domec Ltd in Liverpool for his entrepreneurial talent in co-founding Domec Ltd – a successful facilities services provider that delivers quality solutions relating to the management and upkeep of buildings – and his continual development and expansion of the company. In just five years it boasts market leading clients across the North and Midlands including hotel groups, universities and leading institutions such as the National Trust, with a turnover of £3million.
Each winner was selected based on their achievements around client satisfaction, innovation, successful collaboration and acting as an ambassador for the profession. Sophie was the only winner from the West Midlands with others from the North West, East Midlands, North East and Yorkshire and Humber.
Speaking on Carl’s award win, Lynn Robinson, RICS Regional Director commented: “Carl has proven how forward and innovative thinking can boost more confidence into a company and the profession. Carl is a true ambassador for the profession, helping others and inspiring the next generation of surveyors.”
RICS Matrics Chair, Amy Leader MRICS of Essex County Council headed up this year’s judging panel. She said: “The judges and I were extremely impressed with the exceptional calibre of this year’s shortlist and indeed the winners who all really are the very best of the best in the industry, enjoying hugely successful careers and actively helping to shape our local communities and the world around us. We look forward to following their careers and seeing how they inspire the next generation.”
The winners were announced in front of over 360 guests at a black tie ceremony on 18 November 2016 at the Hilton, London Bankside and were hosted by lifelong campaigner for equality and inclusion, Chris Holmes MBE, Britain’s most successful Paralympic swimmer.
