Niche property consultancy MK2 Real Estate has bolstered its team in Birmingham with the appointment of Ian Wilton.
Ian joins the firm as a director to head up its newly formed building consultancy department.
Previously a director at GBR Phoenix Beard (latterly Savills) in the building consultancy team, Ian has more than 17 years’ experience in the property industry, having also worked for GSD, CBRE and JLL.
Ian specialises in project management, acquisition surveys, contract administration and dilapidations, advising clients including developers, property companies, and funds on all aspects of commercial property.
Recent projects Ian has been involved in include the refurbishment of an 80,000 sq ft office building in Luton for IM Properties, a vendor’s survey of a 650,000 sq ft semi-automated distribution centre, and conducting dilapidation surveys on a portfolio of 28 properties in England, Scotland and Wales on behalf of RBS.
Mark Johnson, director and co-founder of MK2, said: “The buoyant investment market has given us the confidence to grow the business, adding additional services to our existing offer.
“The addition of building consultancy is a natural fit for the business, not only because it complements the work we do in investment agency, but also because we work across a very similar client base to Ian. It also means we can now offer clients a full suite of services.”
Ian Wilton said: “Having worked for a number of large corporate property firms, I’m looking forward to being part of a small niche consultancy and the opportunity to grow the building consultancy side of the business.”
Set up in 2010 as a niche property investment consultancy, MK2 has grown to include asset management, landlord and tenant, property management and building consultancy services.
In the last 18 months MK2 has advised on more than £125 million worth of deals on both sales and acquisitions for a range of clients.
