A popular Indian street food café in Cardiff has secured a second location in the heart of the city centre due to customer demand.
Chai Street has opened its second branch in the capital, adding to its Canton venue, after signing a seven-year lease on 15 High Street.
The new 1,500 sq ft venue has capacity for 50 diners, taking Chai Street’s overall capacity to 110 diners following an extension of its Cowbridge Road East premises.
Cardiff-based retail and leisure specialist EJ Hales advised the landlord, The Bungalow Restaurant (Cardiff) Limited on the deal.
Owen Cahill, associate partner at EJ Hales, said: “The property is on the one of the main retail thoroughfares in the city centre and is ideally located due to its proximity to High Street Arcade, Church Street and St Mary Street.
“It’s also part of Cardiff’s Castle Quarter, a prime location for independent operators, so this deal is a great one for all parties, enhancing the city centre’s food offering.
“The popularity of Chai Street and its sister restaurant Mint & Mustard continues to grow and we wish them all the best in their new home.”
Dr Ajit Kandoran, co-owner of Chai Street, said: “We’re delighted to be opening in the heart of Cardiff. It’s a busy, lively and exciting place, just right for a real Indian street food experience.”
EJ Hales has brokered a number of deals in the last six months which has added to the city centre’s food and drink offering. These include cocktail bar Dirty Martini which has just launched on St Mary Street, Small Bar, the independent brewer from Bristol, which has opened on Church Street and, one of Cardiff’s most historic bars, the Philharmonic, which will relaunch on St Mary Street before the end of the year.
