One of the UK’s leading tyre wholesalers is launching a new Midlands hub in Staffordshire as part of a multi-million pound investment and modernisation programme to restructure its wholesale business.
Kings Road Tyres (KRT) has agreed a 15-year lease on a 92,672 sq ft distribution warehouse at the Centrum 100 business estate, Fourth Avenue, Burton Upon Trent – said national commercial property consultancy Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH).
KRT has taken the opportunity to modernise its entire business by taking advantage of the latest warehousing, logistics, sales, systems and IT technologies.
As a result, the company is investing in a new, modern and streamlined network of logistics centres – including its new Midlands hub at Centrum 100 – that will continue to provide customers with gold-standard KRT service, but with far greater operational efficiencies.
Adrian Bader, KRT group managing director, said: “Our new hub at Centrum 100 provides us with everything we were looking for as we modernise and improve our business. Tyre wholesaling is a dynamic business environment that continues to evolve ever-more rapidly.
“KRT is committed to remaining a major player in the market, as we have been for over 40 years. Against that background, we have decided to radically upgrade our entire distribution network to take advantage of the benefits available with the most modern buildings, logistics, infrastructure and systems.”
The new structure includes the major warehouse hub near Burton and three distribution centres in the south east, south west and north. These will be supported by two smaller satellite centres.
Matthew Tilt is head of industrial and logistics at LSH’s Birmingham office, who jointly marketed the property with Commercial Property Partners (CPP) on behalf of owners Helical.
He said: “In the unit at Centrum 100, Kings Road Tyres has found the ideal property for its Midlands hub as it continues to transform its warehousing and logistics structure. It has excellent links to the motorway network and key Midlands cities, with Birmingham, Derby and Nottingham all being within 30 miles. The unit provides the company with high quality storage and distribution facilities from which to operate as it continues to evolve.”
Sean Bremner, partner at CPP said: “Since its launch to the market, the level of enquiries from high calibre occupiers has been very healthy. Centrum 100 is a popular location, home to many national operators, recognised by KRT when selecting the location for their Midlands HQ.”
Centrum 100 is an established business and distribution estate located south west of Burton upon Trent. Key occupiers include Boots, DHL, Clipper Logistics, Palletforce, Coors, Waterstones and Argos.
