A bespoke solar PV installation completed by Leicester-based renewable energy specialist, Intelligent Energy Solutions (IES) has been shortlisted for a prestigious industry award.
IES has been selected as a finalist in the Renewables Innovation category at the national Environment and Energy Awards for its installation at Lansdowne Road, Cambridge. This category recognises an individual or organisation that has shown the most innovative approach towards the installation of a small scale, embedded renewable energy system. Other finalists include B&Q, East Midlands Airport, Onyx Solar Energy, Tesco Stores and Yorkshire Water Services.
Lansdowne Road is a domestic property situated in a conservation area, meaning solar panels are not permitted to be visible from the road. It features a number of sweeping, crescent shaped, copper roofs; so a conventional PV system would not perform effectively as it would require large sets of panels to face the same direction. IES developed a weather proof design that would maximise electricity generation and take advantage of the unusual roof structure. In addition, the company also supplied superior data monitoring equipment which was integrated with the existing home network and client’s smart phone.
Peter said: “We are obviously delighted to have been selected as a finalist but particularly to be recognised alongside such esteemed company, including some major national brands. Lansdowne Road was a complex challenge but an excellent example of how we were able to integrate cutting edge renewable technology into a modern living environment. We very much hope our innovative approach to this installation is rewarded.”
The Environment and Energy Awards celebrate excellence and innovation from businesses and technology providers. They will be presented on Tuesday 22nd May during Sustainabilitylive! at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham.
