The Highways division of Nottinghamshire based North Midland Construction plc (NM Group) has been awarded a contract in Sheffield. The project involves highway works on the A6178 Sheffield Road, one of the main arterial routes into Sheffield, near junction 34 of the M1 – the Meadowhall junction – to accommodate a new IKEA store. It includes the widening of roundabout approaches as well as the creation of additional lanes to increase the capacity of the road network at four junctions and the creation of a service entrance for the new IKEA store.
The new IKEA store and car park will be under construction throughout the highways work. Some of the works are to Highways England’s assets so the NM Group will need to interface with Highways England and the contractors working on the new store. In addition, due to the location of the works which currently sees a high volume of traffic, extensive traffic management will be required throughout construction.
Geoff Poyzer, managing director of the Highways Division, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this contract. It is the first project that we have handled for this client. We will be working hard to minimise disruption whilst work is underway.”
