Browne Jacobson has further strengthened its corporate banking and finance offering in the East Midlands with the appointments of partner Shaun McCabe and solicitor James Busby into its Nottingham practice.
These latest appointments are a result of a significant rise in instructions from banking and finance clients from across the region and the strength of the Browne Jacobson offering in the East Midlands. Browne Jacobson is the current East Midlands Dealmakers law firm of the year and the firm acted for the buyer on the Dealmakers 2016 deal of the year: PCT Healthcare’s £80m acquisition of WR Evans’ chemists. And Shaun acted for RBS on the same deal.
Experienced banking and finance partner Shaun re-joins the firm from Shoosmiths where he has been recognised in the leading legal directory Chambers & Partners as “commercial and always responsive”. Legal 500 has also praised him for his “high standard of advice”.
His impressive portfolio includes advising banks, debt funds, PE houses and borrowers in relation to the full range of funding transactions, including corporate acquisitions, MBOs, refinancings and property finance deals. He also has particular expertise in asset-based lending and has considerable experience in advising on financings within the health and social care sector.
Prior to his role at Shoosmiths, Shaun worked in Browne Jacobson’s banking and finance team for over ten years, after qualifying with them in 2001. He was promoted to partner in 2011, before joining Shoosmiths.
Shaun’s arrival follows on from the recent appointment of banking and finance solicitor James Busby into the team.
James joins the firm from Gateley Plc, where he previously trained and qualified three years ago. He has considerable experience in real estate finance, acquisition finance and his clients include banks and other financial institutions and borrowers across a wide variety of corporate sectors.
The team has expertise in all aspects of banking and finance, from real estate financing, acquisition and leveraged finance to asset based lending and restructuring work. It acts for a wide range of public and private sector clients including the UK’s leading banking institutions and other funders, local authorities and registered social landlords. The established practice is also recognised by Legal 500 for its “healthcare financing and asset-based lending expertise.”
Partner and Head of Banking and Finance Paul Ray said:
“I am delighted to have Shaun return to the firm and to welcome James. Both have impressive corporate finance and banking experience which has seen them handle and lead on some of the region’s highest profile deals in recent years.
“Their appointments are very significant for the team. They will allow the practice to further grow and add real experience to our banking credentials across the region and enhance our offering nationally.
“Both appointments serve as a reminder of the firm’s commitment to our East Midlands client base and reflect the healthy pipeline of deals we are witnessing across the region.”
Shaun added:
“I am very excited to be returning to Browne Jacobson. I started my legal career with the firm over 17 years ago and their transformation in that time has been truly remarkable. Whilst they have grown into one of the UK’s largest and most respected law firms they have never lost sight of their commitment to their people and clients regardless of who they are and where they are based. Delivering exceptional client service has always been core to their offering and I’m delighted to see that hasn’t changed.”
These latest appointments take the firm’s lawyer headcount to 488 and follows on from a successful year for the law firm which saw it enter the top 50 UK law firm rankings for the first time, named ‘Best Managed National Firm’ at the 2015 Managing Partners’ Forum (MPF) Awards and more recently post a record turnover of £64.3m for 2015/16.
