Property developer Robert Hitchins Ltd has secured planning permission to build a pub and four shop units at the Castlegate Business Park in Caldicot.
The proposals provide additional facilities for the occupiers and employees of the high-tech business park to the east of Caldicot town centre on the Caldicot Road.
Castlegate Business Park has been refurbished by Robert Hitchins to provide offices, research and development facilities and warehouse accommodation and has a number of major businesses operating from it, including Mitel, Microsemi, Indigo Telecom and Vanderbilt.
Set within the business park, it is estimated the new retail and pub development will generate around 30 new jobs and enhance the facilities that Castlegate can offer, increasing the attractiveness for existing and incoming occupiers.
It will also improve local facilities for people working at the 35-hectare Severn Bridge Industrial Estate on the south side of Caldicot Road.
The planning application to Monmouthshire County Council had the support of Caldicot Town Council and Portskewitt Community Council.
A spokesman for Robert Hitchins Ltd said: “The new units will make good use of under-utilised land. They will create a more community feel and represent a sustainable development providing economic growth.”
