Colliers International has sold a 130,000 square foot industrial unit in Grangemouth to distiller Whyte & Mackay, in one of the largest industrial transactions in the East of Scotland so far this year.
Acting on behalf of Asda Stores Limited, the commercial property specialist secured the sale of DC2, West Mains Industrial Estate, one of two large warehouses that became vacant after the retailer invested in a new distribution hub nearby.
The sale of DC2, which covers 130,000 sq ft on a site of 8 acres, means Colliers is now set to market the neighbouring property, DC1, which was formerly Asda’s principal distribution depot in Scotland. This warehouse extends to 250,000 sq ft on a site of 18 acres.
Bryce Stewart, director of Industrial & Logistics at Colliers International, said: “This is one of the largest industrial transactions in East Central Scotland in 2016 and highlights the continued demand for industrial space in general. West Mains has excellent transport links and we anticipate that there will be a high level of interest in DC1, given the relative rarity of such a large and high quality site going on the market.”
Duncan MacPhail of Asda said: “The buildings became vacant following the development of the new Asda Scottish Distribution Centre, which extends to 500,000 sq ft.”
The Grangemouth location, situated on Junction 6 of the M9, has proved a very strategic location for Asda to service the whole of Scotland, and the group currently occupies some 800,000 sq ft over three facilities within the Falkirk/Grangemouth area.
DC1 is available for sale or lease and includes internal offices, a diesel station and lorry wash, parking and a sprinkler system, along with space to expand.
