G24 Innovations (G24i), the global leader in the recycling of light to electricity, has won a prestigious award for its commitment to education in Cardiff.
The company received the Educational Business Partnership Award for Curriculum Support, at the recent Careers Wales Cardiff and Vale Most Valued Partner Awards 2011-2012, held at the Hilton Hotel, Cardiff.
HR manager, Sharon Wallace, and quality and test manager, David Pugh, were nominated by Careers Wales for their commitment to offering work experience placements, the opening of their onsite learning centre and the promotion of careers in STEM subjects. Most recently, this included hosting the Careers Wales Saturday Club.
David Pugh, who heads up the learning centre, said: “We are really pleased to have been recognised by Careers Wales for our educational offering as we believe that it is vital for pupils to learn about the importance of sustainable development. We have put a lot of time and effort in to ensure that visitors are inspired by what they see here.”
Sharon Wallace, who is also a Business Ambassador for Careers Wales added: “We believe that work experience is really valuable for students and have therefore committed to offering structured placements throughout our company. We are delighted to have been recognised for such an award.”
In 2011, Wentloog-based G24i developed unused space at its manufacturing site into a classroom facility, where primary, secondary, college and university students can learn about sustainability by seeing it in action.
G24i was the first company in the world to manufacture green technology entirely from an onsite green energy source thanks to a 2.3 MW turbine on site and therefore G24i is perfectly placed to teach youngsters about sustainable technology. Visiting students have the opportunity to view the manufacturing site, the wind turbine, electric cars and the company’s on-site allotment.
The centre is available for hire free of charge to anyone wishing to use the facility for educational purposes seven days a week.
