St. Modwen, the UK’s leading regeneration specialist, has completed its handover of a purpose-built 215,300 sq ft (20,000 sq m) distribution centre for Travis Perkins at its Whitley Business Park development in Coventry.
The Regional Distribution Centre will operate 24 hours a day, delivering goods and merchandise to Travis Perkins’ existing regional retail outlets and provides a separate gated entrance for service and goods vehicles, along with a 180 space car park.
The well-known builders’ merchant and home improvement retailer was drawn to the site due to its increasing importance as a strategic location for distribution within the region.
Travis Perkins joins a variety of big brand names at Whitley Business Park, including Jaguar Land Rover – which received the go-ahead for its “Whitley South” expansion at the site just a few weeks ago – Majenta, GET Solutions, Cooper Crouse Hinds and Prime Accountants.
Mike Murray, Development Director at St. Modwen, said: “We’re pleased to be handing over the facility to Travis Perkins at Whitley Business Park, which offers an ideal location for their business, close to the A444 and A45 with direct links to the wider motorway network.
“The bespoke unit has been tailored specifically to Travis Perkins’ needs, incorporating photovoltaic cells on the roof to provide a charging point for electric vehicles and a rain water harvesting system which allows the business to continue to meet its sustainability aims.”
With a network of more than 600 branches, Travis Perkins has supplied building materials to trade professionals for more than 200 years. Products available at its retail centres and online include building, plumbing and heating supplies, landscaping materials, timber and sheeting, painting and decorating products, dry lining and insulation, doors and joinery materials, plus hand and power tools.
Situated off the A45 Coventry Road, the 93-acre Whitley Business Park benefits from excellent connectivity, with the M6, M40 and M1 all within easy reach. Mainline rail connections are accessible via Coventry city centre, Warwick Parkway and Birmingham International train stations. Birmingham and Coventry Airports are also within a short drive, the latter being within two miles of the scheme.
