Acting on behalf of North Somerset Council, property consultants Alder King have sold the freehold interest in the former William Knowles Centre in Weston-super-Mare off a quoting price of £750,000. The site has been acquired by LIDL for a new 15,000 sq ft food store.
A former education centre for disabled adults, the William Knowles Centre comprised 19,355 sq ft of single storey buildings across a 2.6 acre site fronting Winterstoke Road. The buildings have now been demolished and contractors are well advanced on the new store.
Tom Dugay, senior surveyor at Alder King, said: “The redevelopment of this vacant site by LIDL and the subsequent creation of new jobs will be very welcome news.
“The site’s proximity to the town centre and its low density made it a very attractive option for a LIDL development.”
Since entering the UK market in 1994 LIDL has opened over 600 stores throughout the UK. LIDL’s South West regional office is based at Locking Castle in Weston-super-Mare.
