Premier Inn, the UK’s largest hotel chain, has secured planning permission for a new 80-bedroom hotel and Beefeater grill in Redditch.
The hotel is set to be built adjacent to Abbey Retail Park and Leisure Centre on an underused site known locally as ‘The Teardrop’, which was recently acquired from Redditch Borough Council. More than 60-jobs will be created on completion of the hotel and restaurant.
Mark Wright, Partner of Trebor Developments, the development manager on the site said: “We have considerable experience in the hotel sector and this has been of great value to Whitbread in this deal. We spotted the potential offered in Redditch for a new Premier Inn and having resolved all manner of technical, planning and legal aspects, we look forward to seeing the scheme commence in the summer. This is great news for Redditch and is already helping us in progressing further initiatives in the town”.
Whitbread, Premier Inn’s parent company, has a target to increase the number of Premier Inn UK bedrooms from 47,000 currently to 65,000 by 2016.
John Bates, Head of Acquisitions for Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants, said: “Premier Inn is a UK success story because of the consistently high standards, great locations and low prices we provide for our customers. We’re growing nationally and the West Midlands is a key expansion area for us.
“Our new hotel in Redditch adds another excellent location to our existing network and is a great example of us working closely with our property partners to unlock the very best sites. The hotel is within walking distance of Redditch town centre and is conveniently located for the nearby attractions of the Cotswolds and Malvern Hills. With planning permission secured, I am keen to push on with our investment to deliver the hotel, creating jobs and supporting the local Redditch economy.”
Construction of the hotel and restaurant is expected to start later this year, with a completion date of early 2013.
