A Coventry-based optical measurement company is looking ahead to a bright future after expanding into new premises.
GOM UK is the British branch of the German company GOM, which works with specialist technology to provide a ‘digital definition’ of complex designs for new projects in a range of industries including automotive and aerospace.
Since October 2002 GOM UK has been based at the University of Warwick Science Park’s Business Innovation Centre in Binley.
After nearly ten years and four internal expansions the firm has grown to produce an annual turnover of around £2.5million and is moving to pastures new at The Cobalt Centre in Middlemarch Business Park. It was assisted in its move by agents Shortland Penn + Moore.
Andrew Cuffley is head of the firm’s UK operation and is pleased to be staying in Coventry.
He said: “We started off in one of the smaller units at the Innovation Centre in 2002 and have expanded within the centre four times.
“GOM have various offices around Europe and we look after the entire UK so have to cover a fair bit of mileage therefore Coventry is an ideal location with good transport links.
“We have found it very convenient particularly with some of our automotive clients based in the Midlands and are glad that we have been able to remain in the area at The Cobalt Centre.
“Our technology provides engineers and designers with the means to better understand tactile components, and is used in wide range of industries.
“This is critical for applications that involve complex geometry, for example taking a vehicle design concept into the engineering loop or in the case of producing the blades inside jet engines, it can be used for process development and control.”
Penny Robb is the centre manager at the University of Warwick Science Park’s Business Innovation Centre in Binley and feels that GOM UK’s growth is a real success story for the park.
She said: “It has been fantastic to see GOM UK develop over the years and it is great that we have been able to help that process.
“They have gone through a number of expansions within the centre but now need a bigger space altogether and we wish them all the best.
“That is ultimately what we are working towards, to try and help smaller businesses develop and move on to bigger and better things.
“Now that process can start all over again in the units that GOM UK will vacate to make their move.”
