Businesses from across Coventry and Warwickshire have heard how the region is quite literally supporting the Olympics – and how they too could still benefit from London 2012.
Around 50 businesses attended an event organised by the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce on behalf of the Local Enterprise Partnership where firms were given an insight on how to make the most of the Games coming to the UK and the region.
One of the firms represented at the event to benefit from the Games was Ryton-based Keller Foundations, which installed the foundations for the Olympic Stadium in London.
Representatives of CompeteFor, the official portal for companies to tender for London 2012-related business contracts, also informed businesses about how they can still be involved in the run up to and beyond the Games when work begins to remodel the Olympic Park.
The event, at the Chamber’s headquarters on the Coventry University Innovation Village also featured talks from Olympian David Moorcroft, Coventry and Warwickshire LEP vice chair Cllr John Mutton and Jim Johnston, of the 2012 Business Network.
Cllr John Mutton, who is also leader of Coventry City Council, said: “Coventry and Warwickshire will not allow the financial problems affecting the country to dampen our enthusiasm for the Games.
“We want as many firms in the region as possible to benefit as much as they possibly can from London 2012.
“We are already seeing the benefits of London 2012 in Coventry of Warwickshire with the Games-related contracts in the region creating hundreds and protecting thousands of jobs.”
Louise Bennett, chief executive of the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “There is still time to make the most of the Games coming to the UK and, particularly, to this region. This was a great opportunity to highlight that fact.”
