Work has started on construction of a new 23,000 sq ft Lidl supermarket on Yarm Road in Stockton-on-Tees, which will create 40 new jobs, on part of a 4.5 acre key ‘gateway’ development for the town.
The new supermarket will anchor a retail and leisure development on the site, with a deal with a national coffee shop chain for a store and drive through facility close to being signed, and enquiries for the remaining land for a pub, hotel and car dealership from local and national companies.
The remaining development plot on the site is being marketed by Teesside independent commercial property consultants Dodds Brown. Stephen Brown, Dodds Brown senior partner said: “We are close to agreeing terms with a national operator for the part of this site. The final plot would ideally suit a pub operator, but we are open to offers for alternate uses.
“Its location close to Preston Farm and the Junction to the A66 makes this an ideal site for leisure uses and the start of construction of the Lidl supermarket shows how close this development is to being a reality, attracting thousands of potential customers.”
The site on Yarm Road was formerly a manufacturing site for Nifco UK which has moved its operations to a new facility in Eaglescliffe.
