In reaction to the FSB (Federation of Small Businesses) Moving Wales Forward report, president and chair of the South and Mid Wales Chamber, Liz Maher, commented:
“The FSB is calling for a change in direction on Wales’s transport policy, which is something that the Chamber fully support.
“With the UK currently standing as the world’s fifth-largest economy, yet ranking 24th for overall infrastructure quality, there is clear indication that political efforts are being focused on other sectors, resulting in the nation’s transport industry and related infrastructure to lag behind.
“The new Welsh Government now has the opportunity to become the catalyst for this change and lead the way for the UK. Although the government has already committed £580m to the South Wales Metro system, it must not lose sight of additional promised policies that will help transform Wales’s interregional transport routes, such as the proposed M4 relief road black route.
“Through increased investment in road infrastructure and improved traffic management, Welsh businesses will receive the boost needed to ensure Wales continues to compete on a global scale.
“The Chamber recognises the challenges facing Wales and stands ready to work alongside the government in making Wales a prosperous and thriving nation for all.”
