Nottingham-based contractor Willmott Dixon is celebrating after raising an astonishing £122,000 for charity in just 24 hours as part of a staff challenge.
The Apprentice-style task pitted teams against one another to help raise funds for homelessness charity Shelter with staff undertaking everything from silent auctions to hitting the streets with collection boxes in a bid to beat their colleagues.
Nick Heath, operations director at Willmott Dixon in the East Midlands, said: “We divided the staff up into a number of different teams who were all tasked with raising as much money as they could for Shelter during the course of the day, with a target of £10,000 for each team.
“We’re a competitive bunch and all wanted to win, so we were all frantically coming up with different ways to raise some money whether that be by calling on generous customers and partners, getting hold of items to auction off or simply heading out with a collection box.
“We couldn’t quite believe just how much money we raised throughout the course of just one day – and the total continues to climb as more and more people donate to this hugely worthwhile cause, it’s quite overwhelming.
“As a business we are committed to giving something back to the communities in which we work and this challenge was a really fun way for us to do that as well as help to bring our team closer together.”
Willmott Dixon has recently moved its Nottingham operation into the city centre after securing terms at Lock House in Castle Meadow Road. The contractor was previously based at Phoenix Park on the outskirts of the city.
