Finishing trades firms in the Coventry area are invited to a drop-in event to find out about opportunities to work on Coventry City Council’s new offices at the £100 million Friargate regeneration scheme.
Hosted by Bowmer and Kirkland, the principal contractor for the first phase of Friargate, the ‘meet the buyer’ event is aimed at small and medium firms specialising in trades including painting, glass and floor covering.
It will take place on Wednesday 20 April between 2 and 4pm at The Job Shop, 1 Bull Yard, Coventry, CV1 1LH.
Construction of the 13 storey Council building is well underway. The central core is complete and the first section of the steelwork is nearly halfway up the building. Designed by internationally renowned architects Allies and Morrison, once complete in 2017 it will be a striking, contemporary office building with views over Station Square, the new tree lined boulevard that will be bustling heart of the Friargate district.
Paul Kelly of Bowmer and Kirkland said: “Organised in partnership with Coventry City Council, this meet the buyer event is a valuable opportunity for local firms to learn about opportunities to work on the final fit of the fantastic Council building.
“Boosting local employment and engaging with developing local relationships is a priority for Friargate and the team involved. We are committed to working with local tradespeople, in turn stimulating economic growth in the area.
The Chamber of Commerce, the Forum for Construction Excellence (FORCE) and the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) are also supporting the meet the buyer event.
Covering 37 acres, Friargate will create up to 15,000 jobs. Among the 25 new buildings to be delivered, will be 14 new office buildings, hotels, shops and restaurants in addition to new homes that will bring the community to life.
