Developers and landowners who had planning permission granted between March and October 2009, but have not yet implemented it, are being urged to act now to protect their position.
From the 1st of October 2012, current guidance, which offers greater flexibility for planning permissions, will no longer apply. Savills is calling on landowners and developers in Devon and Cornwall to protect their position by extending the time limit for implementation if they are not in a position to make a material commencement on site.
Neal Jillings of Savills planning team in Exeter explains, “There will be a number of unimplemented planning permissions, which are due to expire before October 2012. It is important that developers and landowners who have permissions which fall into this category act swiftly to extend their permission before the guidance changes and they are required to submit a new application.
“Gaining an extension to the time limit for implementation of a permission is a straight forward application procedure and it can mean avoiding a more costly new application.”
