A state of the art building by Trebor Developments and renowned architecture practice Corstorphine + Wright has enabled global aerospace product manufacturer, UTC Aerospace to remain as the anchor tenant at the Malvern Hills Science Park (MHSP), whilst freeing up office space for the region’s SMEs.
UTC Aerospace Systems develops and manufactures intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance technologies from its Malvern base and has grown exponentially over the last decade prompting the need for a new home.
The new 30,000 sq ft building has catered for the expansion of UTC Aerospace Systems at MHSP allowing the firm to relocate from its current multiple buildings on the site and continue its expansion. In addition a number of new small to medium businesses could be accommodated in UTC Aerospace Systems’ former building delivering up to 150 new jobs to the region.
Michael Lampard, Director at Corstorphine + Wright said: “It is great to complete this building which has ensured the retention of such an important business and employer within the West Midlands. Our major challenge was delivering a relatively large footprint into the existing estate which itself is already home to 24 operating tenants and 300 employees and is constrained by its location at the foot of the Malvern Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
“Our design has created a high quality and incredibly flexible building which combines vibrant, accessible offices, meeting spaces and break-out zones alongside controlled, secure laboratory facilities to provide the optimum performance in each area.”
The ground floor of the new L shaped block is home to UTC Aerospace Systems’ purpose built laboratory and assembly space which has been designed to allow for continually changing workbench configurations in line with the manufacturer’s requirements to be adaptable for quick commissions.
To this end the laboratory has been scaled to accommodate a large container unit to allow for assignments to be worked upon in a controlled environment.

Alan White, chief executive of Malvern Science Park, said: “Sustainability was a big priority for our new building, to optimise its performance for the tenant as well as ensure it is as adaptable and future proof as possible.
“The curved roof form of the main body of the building marries with the undulations of the local landscape and we have continued the established strategy in Malvern to enhance the appearance of roofscapes when viewed from the elevated position up on the hills by providing a partial green roof.”
