Opened by Sid James in 1966 Greywell Precinct in Leigh Park will soon celebrate its 50th anniversary and, ahead of this milestone, landlord Havant Assets Ltd is currently undertaking a major refurbishment of the centre which has attracted a number of new tenants.
As part of the changes, the metal shop canopies and entrance pagodas are being taken down and the old signage replaced with brighter, modern ones. The seating areas have also been replaced with stainless steel benches which will open up the main walkways.
New tenants including Sofa Bed Heaven, Max 99p Tiffany’s hairdressing and Louise Gregory bespoke baby clothes have all taken new leases on Greywell units resulting in the precinct being 94% occupied. The owners are looking to fill in one of the alleys to the car park to create a larger unit which is to help bring in another national occupier. This will also assist with pedestrian flow and directing shoppers through the scheme.
In addition, redevelopment of some of the upper parts is also underway which once complete will see 26 new apartments available. Already the first phase of eight flats are all under offer.
Commenting on the refurbishment, joint agent Holloway Iliffe & Mitchell director Tom Holloway, said: “It is really good news that the landlord is investing to tidy up the communal areas and converting other areas into apartments.
“Once complete, Greywell will look better than it has done for over a decade which will definitely have a positive impact for both residents and shoppers”.
Jeremy Braybrooke of Osmond Brookes continued: “Greywell is benefitting from businesses looking for well-appointed space close to where they live. With plans in place for a series of events in May to mark Greywell’s 50th anniversary, it will by then have undergone a major transformation”.
