A new ‘gaming lounge’ concept normally seen exclusively in London will be coming to Nottingham’s independent district of Hockley at the end of April.
“[ALT] Video Gaming Lounge”, or [ALT] for short, is a venue with a difference; traditional tables and chairs will be replaced with video game stations to cater to everyone from families to hardcore gamers. Customers can play on their favourite games whilst sipping on a selection of craft beers and ciders and sampling from an array of street food, which is specifically served on manageable plates, so as not to distract from gameplay.
It will be one of the first of its kind in the Midlands, and Hockley in Nottingham seems the right place to do it; Nottingham is not only home to GameCity, the National Videogame Arcade, but Hockley itself is known as the creative side of Nottingham within the award winning Creative Quarter. It’s a place where new concepts, both leisure and retail, have thrived including Mimm, a collaborative space bringing together clothing art and music, the Broadway Cinema and The Hockley Arts Club who all sit within an eclectic mix of unique independent operators.
One of the standout features will be an immersive Call Of Duty experience involving a virtual reality motion platform, the first of its kind in Nottingham. There will also be a Console LAN Area, made up of custom built high end gaming PC’s, PlayStation 4 and Xbox Consoles, and it will also have a specialist Retro Area with a selection of retro consoles, including the SEGA Mega Drive, Nintendo 64, SNES, PlayStation 1 and Original Xbox where gamers can play on all of their old favourites.
Jack Shakespeare of FHP concluded the letting:
“Thanks to initiatives such as the Creative Quarter which nurture creative businesses, Hockley has become one of the most desirable places to operate in Nottingham for this type of concept. I think [ALT] will appeal to alltypes of gamers, from the more hardcore, to families looking for a chilled day out and the guys and girls who enjoy Fifa with their mates and few beers.”
Kon-ick from Alt Video Gaming Lounge comments:
“We’re so excited to bring the people of Nottingham a completely new experience and Hockley is specifically the type of area that is right for it, so we couldn’t be happier with the unit. Our launch date is set for the end of April and we have already planned gaming tournaments, courses, workshops, special game launch nights and a host of events to excite gamers for all walks of life. We’re an all round venue, giving families and friends a chilled place where they can hang out in the daytime, and we’ll then adapt to bring the more grown up gamers an alternative night time venue.”
