Greater Lincolnshire has what other areas of the UK dream of – large volumes of space ready for development. Space that Team Lincolnshire will be championing at MIPIM next month.
Team Lincolnshire is the public-private sector contingent led by the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership (GLLEP) to promote the area at international property event MIPIM. The team also recently announced rapid growth from nine to 22 members in the last year.
For regions, MIPIM is all about attracting inward investment and the key to achieving that is to have tangible opportunities to showcase at the event that runs over four days (15 – 18 March).
While space is a challenge for many areas of the UK, Greater Lincolnshire is an excellent place to invest. For every £1 the government spends in the area, it gets £18 back on that investment.
While at MIPIM the GLLEP will be looking for development and financial partners for a number of sites equating to an impressive 700+ acres, including:
· Food enterprise zones in Lincoln, Grimsby and Holbeach
· Housing development opportunities – 100,000 new homes by 2031 across Greater Lincolnshire
· Lincolnshire Lakes, new residential development in Scunthorpe
· Grantham town centre regeneration scheme and employment land along the A1
· £29m Lincoln Transport Hub
· Lincoln Science and Innovation Park
· Mixed use land for sale in Grantham
· Mixed use regeneration land close to Lincoln city centre
· Three development sites around the new east/west link highway in Lincoln
· One the Brayford, residential and commercial build of 69 apartments, office space and three restaurant units in Lincoln city centre
Ruth Carver, GLLEP director, said: “MIPIM attracts thousands of investors and developers from across the globe and is an opportunity to sell Greater Lincolnshire from a level playing field amongst not just UK and European cities, but also international ones. Our aim of attending MIPIM is to attract further investment into Greater Lincolnshire for the benefit of all its residents.
“Greater Lincolnshire has many selling points, but for MIPIM, the jewel in our crown is space and affordable land values, something that’s lacking in other areas of the UK, especially in the south.
“New for MIPIM this year is The Midlands Pitchbook – a brochure of opportunities across the Midlands region which will include three Greater Lincolnshire investment opportunities. Our region is very much part of the Midlands Engine for Growth and it’s fantastic we have a number of sites included, showing Greater Lincolnshire is an excellent place to invest.
“As part of this, on the first day of MIPIM, we will be launching our own Greater Lincolnshire Pitchbook which will be an excellent tool for us to give to potential investors.”
Team Lincolnshire member Nick Gibb, deputy managing director at contractor Willmott Dixon, said: “Greater Lincolnshire has plenty of opportunities for growth and investment and an example of this is the Lincoln Transport hub development – a significant project for the area that we are pleased to be delivering. The transport hub is a crucial aspect to the city centre’s regeneration, which will benefit residents, businesses and visitors – and importantly help to prepare the growing city for further development.”
Greater Lincolnshire is currently undergoing a huge period of growth and investment. The multi-million pound Growth Deal investment will allow an abundance of opportunities over the coming years. The deal means that there will be over £48m in investment in 2015/16 followed by another £63m from 2016/17 onwards.
Team Lincolnshire member Dominic Jackson at Jackson & Jackson developers, said: “We are very proud to be involved in what will be Lincoln’s premier city centre residential and leisure development One the Brayford. This site will bring much needed, quality accommodation and enhance Lincoln’s leisure offer in a popular area of the city and is an ideal scheme to attract inward investment.”
Greater Lincolnshire is the leading region for renewables and the food industry and with that brings great opportunity for investment and therefore employment in these buoyant sectors. Engineering also plays a key part in the area’s economy – with a dedicated school within the award-winning University of Lincoln and major employer Siemens.
With the ongoing improvements to the infrastructure of Greater Lincolnshire such as the forthcoming Lincoln East-West road link and proposed £29m transport hub as well as the recent £22m renovation of Lincoln Castle which houses the Magna Carta, Lincoln and Lincolnshire are at a crucial point at reaching huge potential in terms of attracting more investment into the area.
