Feedback at the public consultation for the redevelopment of Hodson’s Mill, Robertsbridge, was mostly positive.
More than 200 people attended the event on Tuesday, 26th January, to examine the proposed plans for 95 residential units and 2,430 sq m of commercial space on the 9.9 acre site.
Planning Consultants Stiles Harold Williams set out the case for the scheme, alongside ADD Architects and developers Hodson’s Mill Ltd. The proposals include:
· Redevelopment of the Victorian Mill – derelict since 1999 – with a mixture of residential, social and commercial space, including a doctors and dentists surgery
· Cultural regeneration of the Oast House Riverside area, including a museum or gallery and public bridleway
· 41 social, affordable and private ownership homes to be built at Ockham Green.
· 16 starter homes constructed at the Mill Stream Cottages site
· 14 sustainable 4/5 bedroom houses with solar panels and high levels of insulation at Mill Stream Lane
The next steps for the project will include a further meeting with Rother District Council in early February – and if all parties are in initial agreement, a full planning application will be submitted soon after.
Gerard Saunders of Hodson’s Mill Ltd said: “The scheme went down very well with the vast majority of the village. There was a lot of acknowledgement that we have worked hard to make our design attractive and provide what the village actually wants, rather than just what we think will sell.”
Alex Bateman, Planning Associate for Stiles Harold Williams said: “It was a very well attended event and the overwhelming consensus was positive – pretty much everyone wants the site to be developed.
“We will be reviewing the feedback forms and will continue to work with the community on adapting the scheme where we can.”
