A plan to create a multi-million-pound food theme park in Lincolnshire has been unveiled.
The development, known as Food for Life, would act as a magnet for tourism and is the brainchild of the county branch of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB).
The park would be constructed near the coast, between Skegness and Boston, and would boast farms where crops would be grown and sold on a market.
Animals would be bred on the farms and children would be taught about where food comes from as well as being able to use petting zoos.
David Dexter, regional chairman of the federation, commented: “At this stage, this is just an idea but wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could show so many elements of Lincolnshire’s food industry in one place?
“There is room to grow and to attract a lot of visitors from all over the country, especially educational field trips and school visits.
“Nothing can get started without investment and I am hoping to come across some people who share the vision.”
Development manager for the Lincoln FSB Michael Self said: “At the moment it is just an idea, but that is what we need in Lincolnshire.
“What David has done quite brilliantly is come up with something that is completely about Lincolnshire, in fact it probably wouldn’t be an idea that would work anywhere else.
“Our hope is that a lot of producers get involved and the idea will be a real draw for people visiting the county.
“The idea has been developed quite ingeniously by David to be a perfect fit for the county.”
A report outlining the ambitious plan was presented to the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership.
