The Southampton Property Association (SPA) has appointed a new chairperson.
Nella Pang, associate director at property consultancy JLL, takes over the reins from Lucy Richmond, continuing the latest line of women at the helm. Nella was elected onto the SPA committee three years ago, before becoming vice chairperson last year, and has been elected into her new role by fellow peers.
Explaining her ambitions for her new role, Nella says: “It’s both exciting and a great privilege to be appointed as chairperson. The SPA plays an important role in giving professional support and I enjoy being part of this sociable community.
“The SPA embraces all businesses which have a strong interest in property rather than just agents, so there are many opportunities to increase awareness of our work among potential new members and widen our network along the South Coast.
“An important element of our work is to help local charities in and around Southampton. We are a non-profit organisation and all our events help raise money for our nominated charities throughout the year.
“In recent years, the organisation has developed a focus on delivering continuous professional development (CPD) so I am keen to build on this as well as work with our committee members to host lively networking events that will bring our members together.”
The SPA has around 400 members, ranging from agents and developers to solicitors, accountants and surveyors.
The association began in 1948 as Southampton and District Auctioneers Valuers and Estate Agents Association (SAVE). In the last 15 years or so, it has become more centred around commercial agents and the name was changed in 1997 to reflect its widening membership base. Ten years ago, it changed the rules to include all businesses that are substantially property related.
Nella was handed the reins at the SPA’s annual general meeting on Thursday January 14, held at the White Building in Cumberland Place, Southampton – an office building which JLL is marketing on behalf of asset management company Ashville.
