A leading Danish design store has opened a flagship Salisbury city centre branch opposite the Market Place.
Tiger, a rapidly expanding chain of quirky and contemporary stores, has moved into 30 Butcher Row.
This follows city property consultancy Myddelton & Major and joint agent, Savills, successfully negotiating the letting of the prominent premises on a 10-year lease for the quoting rent of £80,000 per annum.
Myddelton & Major Partner Simon Lee said: “Tiger is an international variety retailer offering a broad range of primarily own- branded and own designed products – now with 556 stores in 27 countries.
“Having such a top new trader in this prime unit will be a brilliant addition to Salisbury’s already excellent variety of shops and shows the growing confidence in the city’s prime retail market.
“Tiger is growing fast as more UK stores are opened and I am glad to see one opening here so shoppers do not have to travel to find these inspiring products.
Tiger began life in 1995 in Copenhagen, opening the first UK store in Basingstoke in 2005. Now there are more than 50 stores in England and Wales employing hundreds of staff.
Jon Edwards of Tiger said: “Our British customers are keen on Tiger and the quirky, unpretentious design that amazes and inspires them – as do the surprisingly affordable prices.
“Shopping at our stores is a unique experience because we make design items accessible – from homeware and kitchenware to stationery, toys and hobby items – right in the middle of the city where people live and work.
“Our award-winning Tiger stores offer an ever-changing selection of own-designed items – more than 50 per cent designed at headquarters in Copenhagen – in places to explore and where it’s fun to shop.”
The large Salisbury branch, with a sales area of 1,313 sq ft (121.98 sq m), occupies a prominent central trading position benefiting from high pedestrian footfall from Market Place to Old George Mall and also Butcher Row to High Street.
Other traders close by include Game, Boots, Starbucks, Shoe Zone, Ernest Jones, Goldsmiths and Vodafone.
Myddelton & Major and joint agents Savills acted on behalf of the landlord, CBRE Global Investors, whose director James Horgan said: “Thanks to the proactive effort and detailed input of our agents, we were able to secure this deal quickly and on strong leasing terms.”
Tiger were represented by Rob Alston Retail.
Myddelton & Major was named the most active agency in Wiltshire in 2015 for the fourth year running by Estates Gazette, the weekly and online magazine of the UK commercial property industry.
