Allied London has released new images to show how the construction of their new XYZ Building in the heart of Spinningfields in Manchester is progressing.
The images, taken by lead contractors McLaren, show for the first time how XYZ in Leftbank will fit into the existing Spinningfield’s skyline to become one of the city’s flagship structures.
McLaren have confirmed that the build is on schedule, with works expected to complete in June 2016. XYZ will then be in use from the summer months and occupiers include Global Radio, Shoosmiths and the NCC Group.
Chris Reay, estates director for Spinningfields, said: “These images really highlight the huge progress that has already been made on site – with some key elements of the building really starting to take shape.
“The build has attracted a great deal of interest across Spinningfields and will be an integral part of the estate and a real hub of activity once complete.
“We are delighted that the build is on schedule and are hugely excited about launching the XYZ concept here in Spinningfields next year.”
Stephen Lythgoe, senior project manager from McLaren, said: “Recent advancements to the 160,000 sq. ft. build include; the completion of the concrete frame, curtain walling frames to all elevations’ blockwork and soffit insulation to the basements and ground floor areas. The precast stairs are now also in situ as are the balustrades to the end cores.
“Installation of the floor to ceiling glazing has also commenced across the second, third, fourth and fifth elevations which is really beginning to bring the building to life.”
Construction will take another leap forward over the coming weeks as the precast cladding commences and the internal building services and lifts are also installed.
Construction will also start in the New Year on the XYZ Studio. The XYZ Studio, which will open in April 2016, will provide events space for an inspiring events programme that will help set the tone for the “XYZ way” of working and collaborating.
