Cineworld has opened at a new town centre retail scheme in the East Midlands.
The company has unveiled a five-screen, 787-seat cinema at the Crescent, Hinckley, in time for the UK release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Thursday, December 17.
Cineworld follows on from the successful opening of Sainsbury’s at the new development, by the Tin Hat Partnership.
TK Maxx, Prezzo, Simply Gym, Costa, Rossini, Loungers and Poundland are already all signed up to the scheme and will open in the New Year. Elbow Room has already opened while local company Fab is also due to open before the turn of the year.
A handful of units remain available for both retailers and restaurants, with several under offer and there is significant interest through agents Strutt & Parker.
Tony Baker, of the Tin Hat Partnership, said: “This is another landmark for the Crescent. Cineworld, alongside Sainsbury’s, were anchor tenants for the scheme and that really meant that the whole development could happen.
“It’s great to see them throwing open their doors at what should be a very busy time for the cinema.
“This is an excellent end to 2015 and really gives us momentum going into 2016 to get terms agreed on the last remaining units and to see all of our other occupiers, who have already committed, opening.”
He added: “The Crescent is a great example of modern, town centre development. Rarely, these days, can it be based purely on retail. There almost certainly has to be some leisure thrown into the mix but that helps to attract an even great range of visitors once the scheme is fully open.”
The main ‘Crescent’ thoroughfare has also recently opened with an official opening of the whole scheme expected in the spring of 2016.
