Slough Borough Council has granted planning permission for The Porter Building, Landid Property and Brockton Capital’s joint development at 1 Brunel Way, Slough. The 115,000 sq ft landmark development, designed by tp bennett, will transform the existing vacant office site on Station Plaza into contemporary offices for creative, digital and professional businesses.
The Porter Building will provide new, high-quality workspace that responds to the needs of today’s office occupier as well as delivering a positive benefit to the residents of Slough. The Building will replace the existing 1980s office block, which has been vacant since 2010, to create a modern gateway to Slough, regenerating the area in time for the arrival of Crossrail in 2019.
Designed to meet BREEAM ‘Excellent’ standard, The Porter Building aims to encourage a healthy and collaborative working environment, with a ‘green lung’ atrium at its centre. Detailed proposals are being explored to provide a planting and water feature that will run the full height of the central atrium and provide visual and atmospheric enhancements to the building. A roof level amenity terrace is also included within the proposal giving occupiers an outside event and collaboration space. tp bennett’s concept is based upon a ‘modern urban warehouse aesthetic’ and includes a combination of brick details to complement the neighbouring Grade II listed train station, and to harmonise with the wider regeneration plans for the Heart of Slough.
tp bennett is working closely with Landid Property and Brockton Capital to make The Porter Building one of the first buildings in the UK to achieve international ‘Well Being’ certification.
Nenad Manasijevic, Principal Director at tp bennett, said: “Landid has significant expertise in delivering vibrant, new commercial-led regeneration projects and required a design that would fulfil both the aesthetic and functional needs of today’s occupier. Our concept delivers a contemporary working environment that encourages movement and fluidity, as well as delivering high sustainability credentials in line with achieving a BREEAM and ‘Well Being’ certification. The Porter Building aims to set the standard of development within this part of Sough.”
Chris Hiatt, Director at Landid Property, said: “The Porter Building will be Slough’s best located modern workplace, offering the next generation of occupiers a competitive working environment just 30 minutes from Central London when Crossrail opens. The scheme responds to the Council’s agenda to create jobs and promote the regeneration of Slough and tp bennett’s considered design concept will deliver a strong aesthetic to the area encouraging further investment into the town.”
Construction is due to start in January 2016 with expected completion in August 2017.
