A commercial property firm in Hampshire is growing its building consultancy arm with a second appointment.
Nick Miles joins Hughes Ellard as a senior building surveyor, bringing the total number of employees at the independent, now in its 42nd year, to a record 27.
Formerly with Faithful+Gould in Southampton, and Woolley & Wallis in Salisbury, he will be working alongside senior building surveyor Mark Patel.
Nick’s experience covers the full range of building surveying duties. They include acquisition surveys, advising on building defects, schedules of condition, dilapidations, development monitoring and the project management of refurbishment and fit-out schemes.
Gary Jeffries, the managing director of Hughes Ellard, said: “Businesses are increasingly utilising our collective and individual expertise for the lifecycles of their premises, from search-and-acquisition and leasehold or freehold negotiations to fit-outs and refurbishment.
“As part of the client’s property journey, Nick will also be involved in dilapidations matters, where the vacating business has to leave the premises in a similar state to when it took occupancy.
“This can be a contentious issue and often catches firms out by surprise – Nick advises on agreements and remedial works.
“He will complement the superb work Mark has done for clients since joining us last year – we look forward to continuing to provide clients with best-in-class services.”
Originally from the West Midlands, and now residing in Christchurch, Dorset, Nick is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and a registered Assessment of Professional Competence doctor for the South of England region, welcoming enquiries from candidates undertaking their final assessment for the building surveying faculty.
He said: “We are well positioned at Hughes Ellard to support the building consultancy needs of companies as demand for commercial premises intensifies during the sustained economic recovery.”
Nick is the latest professional services’ appointment at the firm, which has offices in Ocean Village, Southampton, and at Cams Hall business park in Fareham.
Earlier this year chartered surveyor Joe Walker, joined. As well as Mark, others include management surveyor Ed Martin, property manager Sara Williams and senior negotiator George Wise.
