Sheffield based contractor and developer, JF Finnegan, has been awarded a £6M design and build contract by Ackroyd & Abbott Ltd to create a 165,000 sq ft industrial unit at Ashroyd Business Park in Barnsley. Work has now started on site developing the unit, which will be occupied by Universal Components Ltd.
JF Finnegan has commenced development of the major warehouse/distribution unit which comprises 150,000 sq ft of industrial accommodation and 15,000 sq ft of offices on Plot 2 of the established Ashroyd Business Park which is located off Junction 36 of the M1 within the Sheffield City Region Enterprise Zone.
The works are scheduled for completion in May 2016.
Universal Components UK Ltd is relocating to Barnsley from their two existing premises at Attercliffe and Ecclesfield in Sheffield. Universal Components was an MBO in 2004 from the RAC / Lex Group. At that time the company had a turnover of approximately £7.5M and was in a loss making position. Eleven years later the company is a successful multinational that has a UK turnover approaching £30M. Its growth over the last decade has seen UC reach capacity in their existing facilities and therefore a requirement for a new purpose built distribution centre that will be used to supply its customer base around the world.
Gary Smith, Managing Director at JF Finnegan, said; “We are delighted to receive this instruction to create a new 165,000 sq ft warehouse for Universal Components Ltd to occupy. The regional logistics market is still experiencing extremely low supply levels and as a result, occupiers are going down the design and build route in order to get the larger buildings that suit their needs. This bespoke facility will further enhance Ashroyd Business Park and make an important contribution to the broader Sheffield City Region Enterprise Zone.”
