Couch Consulting Engineers have been appointed by the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity to carry out structural and civil engineering services on a pioneering new facility, to be known as Fisher House in Birmingham.
The £4.2m building will have 18 en suite rooms and communal kitchen facilities providing free accommodation for the families of wounded soldiers while they recover in hospital.
Fisher House will be located on the Queen Elizabeth Hospital site and has been designed to be in keeping with the large distinctive houses in the local area maintaining a homely feel. The site is within walking distance of the hospitals Royal Centre for Defence Medicine.
The project has been funded by The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity, Help For Heroes and the US-based Fisher House Foundation.
Geoff Hall and Mark Cuff of Couch Consulting were among other members of the design team invited to the official launch of the project at The House of Commons recently.
Work is due to commence onsite in April this year and is expected to open in early 2013.
