Calthorpe Estates has announced the appointment of SPACE – Retail Property Consultants, in a move which sees the landowner and developer take a step closer towards delivering on its vision for The Village in Edgbaston.
With a remit to attract the right mix of high quality, independent boutique retailers and specialist food and beverage operators to the new retail and leisure destination, SPACE will present opportunities at The Village to target occupiers. It will also consult with and advise Calthorpe Estates on its lettings strategy for the retail and lettings space in the area.
Jayne Herritty, Sales and Marketing Director for Calthorpe Estates, said: “Having reached a stage of this flagship project where we are ready to engage with prospective tenants, it was incredibly important to us that the agents for The Village had the right credentials for the project together with a clear understanding of the style and character of the prestigious community and vibrant urban village we are looking to create.
“Not only does SPACE have an enviable reputation in the commercial property market for its specialist retail and leisure experience, the team shares our passion and vision for The Village and we are confident they will be great advocates for the project when presenting the commercial opportunities to potential occupiers.
“SPACE has the right long-standing relationships in place to hit the ground running. Indeed, they are already in regular contact with many of the high quality leisure and retail operators we are looking to target for the commercial space in The Village, Edgbaston, which boasts over one million ABC1 profile households within a one hour drive time.”
The SPACE team for The Village is headed up by Peter Leverett, Managing Director, and Martin Herbert, Director with support from Naomi Ellwood, Surveyor.
Peter Leverett said: “Getting the leisure and retail mix right is key to creating a distinctive ‘sense of place’ for The Village, and the focus for SPACE is firmly on complementing the nature of the existing offering in Edgbaston – serving those who live and work in the area, while also establishing The Village as a destination in its own right.
“We will be working closely with the likes of homewares and interiors businesses, specialist food and beverage operators to niche or designer retailers, as we help build the new leisure and retail community. We understand exactly what individual occupiers are looking for, what factors make a difference to their business and how The Village can play a part in their future success.
Martin Herbert added, “When you look beyond the West Midlands there are some excellent examples of quality, aspirational urban villages which combine period character with contemporary style, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to play a part in enhancing Edgbaston with the creation of a new urban village with its own distinctive character.”
Bordered by Harborne Road, Highfield Road and Calthorpe Road, The Village is already home to a mix of aspirational leisure and retail businesses, in addition to a thriving gastro quarter to include the award-winning Simpsons restaurant; The Edgbaston cocktail bar, eatery and boutique hotel; The High Field gastro pub, El Borracho de Oro Spanish tapas bar, and The Blue Piano South-East Asian restaurant.
