Clearbell has announced that Sonomatic, a market leader in the provision of advanced automated ultrasonic inspection services, is the latest occupier to join The Core, Aberdeen.
Global organisation Sonomatic, which provides services to customers in the oil and gas industry, will create a brand new multi-disciplined facility that will allow it to cover its entire range of NDT (non-destructive testing) inspections. The state of the art premises, comprising a 10,000 sq ft office and a 14,000 sq workshop with associated parking and yard space, will house radiography and hydro testing bays and will have the ability to perform heat-treatment on its customers’ equipment.
Construction is expected to commence by November 2015 with Sonomatic likely to relocate from its current site in Bridge of Don in April 2016.
The Core is a business park – offering bespoke office, industrial, workshop, warehouse and leisure facilities – located in a coastal setting in the Bridge of Don. It aims to be one of the most energy efficient, low carbon business communities in the UK.
Tracy Anderson, RAIS division manager and UK business development manager, Sonomatic said: “The location has been very carefully selected with consideration given to our customers’ logistical requirements. We want to be situated in close proximity to our customers, to reduce the time taken to turnaround inspections and to ensure we meet environmental commitments. Consequently we have chosen to invest in a new site at The Core.
“Another very important factor in the decision to move to The Core is the planned location of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route (AWPR). In addition to serving customers in Aberdeen, we are hoping to meet customers’ requirements from all over Scotland by taking full advantage of the A90 and the AWPR.”
Nick Berry, partner at Clearbell, said: “Despite the changing market in Aberdeen, we are seeing continued positive interest in The Core and are pleased to welcome Sonomatic as the latest occupier.
“Sonomatic is going to create a centre of excellence for its NDT services at The Core and is planning to bring its highly skilled technicians and engineers from the existing Sonomatic specialised services division to the new facility.”
Tracy Anderson from Sonomatic continued: “We have ambitious plans for the business beyond NDT services so another reason for selecting The Core is the ability to extend our facility and services if need be.”
Further development is expected at The Core with construction of the park’s first two speculative industrial units, extending to 39,000 sq ft and 27,000 sq ft, which will also include service yards. Construction on these units will commence in September.
Permission has also been secured for an additional two plots; one of which is for a 100,000 sq ft unit made up of industrial and office accommodation with a 2.5 acre service yard. The other plot, spanning 2.14 acres, will comprise 20,000 sq ft of warehouse and 6,000 sq ft of office space with a 28,000 sq ft service yard.
Generate Land, The Core’s development advisor, has confirmed all platforming, infrastructure and enabling works are complete and HVAC & Refrigeration Engineering Ltd is expected to be in occupation at its new premises in The Core by autumn 2015.
