A new entrance flanked by a row of shops and cafes will complete the transformation of a south London street next to the new London Bridge station.
London Bridge station is being completely rebuilt by Network Rail as part of the Government-sponsored Thameslink Programme, including a new entrance onto St Thomas Street in Southwark.
A series of new computer-generated images show the design of the new entrance, which will provide a pedestrian link between the areas to the north and south of the station for the first time from 2018. In addition, the new station will provide a row of shops and other retail units to bring new life to the street.
The entrance itself has been installed using pre-cast sections, built off-site at Newcastle-Under-Lyme in Staffordshire, and installed over the summer. They will come into use in summer 2016 when the first half of the new concourse opens.
The new station entrance facades have been installed as pre-cast sections, with brickwork to match the rest of the viaduct. The remaining arches have had their decorative brickwork and pediments restored to their former glory and will provide welcoming entrances for shops, cafes and more, stretching down to Bermondsey Street.
