A Conwy-based construction company has laid the foundations for success, enjoying year-on-year growth, moving to bigger premises and increasing its workforce.
Brenig Construction, which was established by childhood friends Howard Vaughan and Mark Parry in 2012, has experienced continual growth since its formation, increasing its first year turnover of £560,000 to £5.6 million in 2014. The business has also secured high-profile contracts with clients in the social housing, regeneration, utility and public sectors, including Balfour Beatty, Wilmott Dixon and Denbighshire County Council.
The company, which started as a two person organisation in a small business park office, has recently acquired a 43,000 sq ft site in Old Colwyn and now employs more than 60 members of staff.
Having worked in the construction industry for a number of years, Mr Vaughan and Mr Parry were equipped with the industry skills and knowledge to start a business, but turned to Business Wales, the Welsh Government’s business support service, for advice on growing the company in a steady and sustainable way.
Howard Vaughan, managing director of Brenig Construction, said: “Brenig Construction has gone from strength-to-strength in recent years.
“Mark and I are civil engineers by trade, so having a dedicated Business Wales mentor on hand to provide us with expert business advice has been very helpful. We started the business in a small industrial estate office where it was just Mark and me and it’s fantastic to see how far the business has come in such a short period of time.
“With Business Wales providing support throughout the company’s development so far, we have been able to maintain steady growth and ensure that we don’t fall into the common pitfalls that many new businesses experience early on.
“I’m very proud of how much the business has accomplished since its launch in 2012, and we have ambitious growth plans with the aim of expanding into different sectors and offering new services across north Wales.”
